MOTHERING CYANOTYPES
Cyanotypes are images created as an alternative process to traditional photography. Paper, or fabric; or tons of other things, is coated with a solution of iron salts. Objects are laid on top and the material is exposed to UV light.
The following works were created in the years 2022 and 2025, a transitional time for me as I adjusted to motherhood.
As I entered the sacrosanct space of motherhood, it became evident to me that I have become a new person. I felt then as I do now that to create and sustain life is the greatest privilege I will ever have. To nurture and to feed the spiritual and physical growth of any child is an honor, and I revere the process entirely. The cyanotypes I make record the processes involved with learning to stand in my power as a mother. By using the sun as a tool for documentation, I embrace my role as co-creator with divinity. Borne from the deep transformational journey into motherhood, my art practice is a conduit for growth in all capacities.
